Bending stress


Tensile strength is the mechanical stress above which destruction of a material happens. In other words, it is a threshold value at exceeding which the mechanical stress will destroy an object of concrete material. There are static and dynamic strength.

Static strength is a threshold value of constant mechanical stress at exceeding which the constant mechanical stress will destroy an object of concrete material. The more correct term is tensile break strength that is strength corresponding to the greatest effort preceding break of a sample at (static) mechanical tests.

Dynamic strength is a threshold value of constant mechanical stress (for example at impact action) at exceeding which the alternating mechanical stress will destroy an object of concrete material. In case of dynamic impact on this object the time of its loading does not often exceed several seconds from the beginning of loading until destruction. In such situation the corresponding characteristic is also termed as conditionally instantaneous strength or brittle short--time strength.
