Density

Density is a scalar physical quantity determined as a relation of the mass of the body to the volume occupied by this body.

Average density of a body is a relation of the mass of the body to its volume. For a uniform body it is also designated just as density of a body.

Density of a substance is a density of a uniform body consisting of this substance.

Proceeding from determination of the density its measurement unit is kg/m³ (or g/cm³).

For granular and porous materials the following parameters are distinguished:
– real density determined without taking into account interstices;
– specific (apparent) density calculated as a relation of the mass of the substance to all volume occupied by it.

The real density is received from the apparent one by means of the porosity ratio that is a share of the volume of interstices in the occupied volume. For granular materials specific density is designated as bulk density.
